This is one of Zandomeneghi's most important later works. The doubling of the female figure, the real one and its reflection, produces a perspective of particular depth. The painting is also interesting because it confirms what Mia Cinotti stated:"In pastel work Zandomeneghi retained up to the very end his huge capacity for calibrating composition, form and color; while the form may be more compacted than in his oils, the particular technique of the pastel serves to lighten it with a display of eloquent hues."
